Third Sunday after Pentecost (Sun July 3, 2011)

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest." The words of our Lord are easy to hear and read. However, Christ knows how difficult it is for us to turn over our burdens. Father Swann reminded us in the Homily that often we do not want help, or do not want to admit that we need help. We want to be independent. We are reminded that the Christian faith is a faith that calls on us to be dependent on God. Allow God to be there to ease your burdens no matter how small or large you feel they are. Who is allowed to come to Christ with their burdens? Are you worthy to come to Christ for relief? We are ALL welcome the only requirement is that we have burdens. What kind of burdens do you have? Are they weighing you down? Ponder silently to yourself what can happen if these burdens grow larger and the consequences they may have. Lay your burdens down for an easy yoke that Christ offers freely. May you learn that which you need to know to let go of your struggles, and whatever weighs heavily on your mind. Amen.
Collect:
O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
